John Alder MA (Royal College of Art 1969-1972)
John Alder, a working sculptor, has a unique understanding of form and outstanding technical skills in handling media. His work is concept led thus bringing an energy and freedom to the use of materials and the means to create a work.
His ability to create figurative and portrait pieces which reflect not only how a person looks but their character and sense of purpose is evidenced by privately and commercially commissioned work including a bust of Christopher Oroko Cole (President of Sierra Leone) for the Embassy of Sierra Leone; historical figures like George Mason for Virginia, USA; Professor R A Burchell of University of Manchester; portraits of young people; work for the Crest Hotel chain and a commemorative piece in silver for the RAMC Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital Woolwich a copy of which was presented to the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
